Biennial General Meeting
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED
Dear CAAFI Affiliates,
We regret to inform you that we will be postponing the June CAAFI Biennial General Meeting (CBGM) until the October/November 2025 timeframe. Over the past several months we have been soliciting input from industry, federal agency personnel, and other stakeholders for the development of our CBGM agenda, and participation therein. Many of you have communicated to us that you want to attend but are dealing with your own budgetary and travel constraints resulting in delayed registration decisions, or total uncertainty about your ability to attend.
Below are just a few of the factors impacting businesses, governmental agencies, academic institutions, and the general population:
• Filling remaining open Agency leadership assignments
Enabling alignment across the Administration, Agencies and their Programs in coordination with several applicable Executive Orders
• Agency staff departures and staffing reductions
Likely resulting in agency reorganizations and priority realignments
• FY 2026 Budget & Budget Reconciliation
Relates to Administration and Congressional priorities, and future Agency funding and tax policy
• Farm Bill passage
Affects USDA programs used for support of bioeconomy initiatives
• Additional pending elements of Federal legislation
Including, e.g., H.R.1326, H.R.1594, S.173, H.R.1719, S.144, H.R.311, S.692
• Tariff negotiation impacts
Resulting impacts on travel, import prices, and exports of U.S. goods & services
• Efforts of the National Energy Dominance Council & Strategy
Working through recently submitted Agency proposals
We understand that change and uncertainty is impacting all participants in our CAAFI community and we hope that the later date provides the opportunity to achieve additional clarity on agency staffing, policy, financing, industry intentions, and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) production. We expect many, if not all, of these issues may be addressed or at least include improved understanding of impacts by October/November 2025. Additionally, this week marks a critical timeline with regard to hotel commitments, participant travel plans and other factors that require a hard decision on the meeting’s execution. Hence our decision this week. Our CAAFI leadership team did not take this decision lightly, as it does have a negative financial impact on our operations and its organizational sponsors, as well as potential participants, but we feel the delay could result in us having a much more informed discussion later this year, with full Agency engagement.
You deserve that!
We are encouraged to hear that the first quarter production and utilization of SAF in the U.S. has significantly outpaced those quantities from 2024. Progress continues to be made with research efforts, state-based incentives, commercial development, offtake agreements, and global interest in SAF, and we look forward to highlighting and discussing these developments when we assemble later this year.
The CAAFI team is in the process of firming-up one of three new specific dates and venues, and we’ll let you know our decision as soon as possible. If you have already registered or have committed sponsorship for the June event, stay tuned for guidance from us on receiving full refunds or utilization of such funds at the rescheduled meeting. In the meantime, I hope to see you at various working meetings, conference events, and webinars over the coming months leading up to the rescheduled meeting. CAAFI will place emphasis on having a more robust webinar schedule over the coming months, leading up to our postponed meeting.
Finally, we want to note that the Massport SAF Regional Workshop being planned for Thursday, 05 June, at the Volpe Center will continue to take place. As we have communicated previously, if you’d like to be considered for inclusion in this invitation- only event, please reach out to the organizers:
Flavio Leo (fleo@massport.com), or

supporting this activity.

About the General Meeting:
The CAAFI® Biennial General Meeting (CBGM) is a critical convening event to connect sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) stakeholders across global industries and sectors and provides a venue to share information and showcase technologies. CAAFI is a public-private partnership of airlines, aircraft and engine manufacturers, energy producers, researchers, international participants and U.S. government agencies. Its goal is to promote the development and deployment of SAF that provide equivalent safety and performance, favorable costs, and are better for the environment compared with petroleum-based jet fuel, while offering energy supply security for aviation. The CBGM enables CAAFI’s diverse participants – representing all the leading stakeholders in the field of aviation – to build relationships, share best practices and data, identify resources, and direct research, development and deployment of alternative jet fuels.
The anticipated session topics include:
-
Progress and accomplishments in SAF production and supply chain development
-
Certification and qualification of new synthetic aviation turbine fuels
-
The economic, energy security, competitiveness and environmental value proposition of SAF
-
Current policy and policy research
-
A community vision for future direction
The CAAFI team welcomes your participation in our Biennial General Meeting!
