December 30, 2021 — Qantas has introduced a new Green Tier to their loyalty program alongside the existing tiers of Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Frequent flyers in the Green Tier will be able to offset emissions in their everyday lives and earn Qantas points. Qantas introduced the Green Tier with hopes to educate and encourage frequent flyers to reduce emissions when possible. The initiative has been driven by feedback from frequent flyers who want to be made aware of their environmental impact and rewarded for their environmentally conscious lifestyle improvements. While Australia’s sustainable aviation sector is still young, carbon offsetting is the best way to reduce net emissions until low emission technology is made more available.
