Emirates and GE Aviation Sign MOU for 100% SAF Test Flight

December 30, 2021 — Emirates and aircraft engine supplier GE Aviation have signed an agreement to conduct a test flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by the end of 2022. Emirates plans to operate a B777-300ER with GE90 engines for this test flight and hopes to prove that SAF can be used commercially with no operational issues. Emirates powered its first SAF in 2017 from O’Hare AIprort in Chicago, and received its first A280 aircraft powered by SAF last year. Emirates is using SAF to reduce overall carbon emissions. The commitment with GE Aviation is seen as an important step to securing more flights powered by 100% SAF.
