JetBlue Expands SAF Usage

September 13, 2021 — Jetblue has entered into a new partnership with World Energy and World Fuel Services for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). World Energy began supplying SAF to JetBlue at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this month. This agreement includes 1.5 million gallons of blended SAF a year for at least 3 years. This will make SAF approximately 5% of JetBlue’s fuel usage at LAX. Realizing that alternative fuel options will play a critical role in the aviation industry’s transition to lower-carbon operations, JetBlue is implementing comprehensive carbon reduction targets. Last year, JetBlue became the first major U.S. airline to achieve carbon neutrality on all domestic flights. The company is aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2040.
