March 5, 2021 — FedEx has committed to reaching carbon-neutral operations by 2040. They aim to do so by replacing their entire delivery fleet with zero-emissions vehicles and focusing on sustainable energy options. The company, which uses more than 200,000 motorized vehicles and 680 cargo planes in its global network, said they will initially invest $2 billion dollars to start achieving this goal. Along with vehicle electrification, the money will be used towards sustainable energy and carbon sequestration. They have earmarked $100 million to help Yale University establish the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture. This center will be researching methods of carbon sequestration with a focus on offsetting gas emissions equivalent to current airline emissions.
