U.S. DOT and Transport Canada Release Joint Statement on Transportation and Climate Change
   

March 3, 2021 — Secretary Buttigieg of the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) and Minister Alghabra of Transport Canada have committed to renew a bilateral cooperation to fight climate change and limit environmental impacts from transportation networks. They plan to work together to accelerate policy actions that help transport sectors in both countries effectively fight climate change. Regarding aviation, the U.S. and Canada are committed to a shared vision of reducing the sector’s emissions in a way that is consistent with the 2050 net zero emissions goal. This will be done by advancing the development and use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and other clean technologies that meet strict international standards. The plan is to building on existing partnerships, such as through U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s Aviation Sustainability Center (ASCENT), and pursue policies to increase supply and demand of SAF.
