15 airlines sign MOUs to negotiate purchase of alternative jet fuel from AltAir and Rentech (12/15/2009)
December 15, 2009 -- the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) announced that 12 airlines (Air Canada, American Airlines, Atlas Air, Delta Air Lines, FedEx Express, JetBlue Airways, Lufthansa German Airlines, Mexicana Airlines, Polar Air Cargo, United Airlines, and US Airways) signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with both AltAir and Rentech to begin purchase negotiations for alternative aviation fuels. Two additional airlines (Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines) signed the MOU with AltAir fuels, and AirTran signed the MOU with Rentech. ATA played an active role in facilitating the development of the MOUs, a major step forward in support of alternative jet fuel deployment. ATA continues to discuss additional opportunities with other aviation alternative fuel producers and the U.S. Department of Defense.

FAA Administrator Randy Babbit said “Today’s announcements reaffirm the airlines’ commitment to a greener, more stable, and secure energy future, reinforcing the spirit of innovation and openness that is the essence of the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
